I hope you enjoy fireworks
tonight without blowing your
hand off. I never quite got the
attraction of holding lit sticks
with small explosives made in
unknown countries by craftsmen who earn nineteen cents a
month. Being a baseball announcer I see
firework shows at least five
times a year. They’re usually
on when I’m doing the
postgame show, trying to read
out-of-town scores while the raid on Osama is going on in the
background. When I broadcast for the
Mariners in the '90s we used to
have indoor fireworks at the
Kingdome. That never seemed
like a good idea, and in fact
ceiling tiles began plummeting to the ground. And then of course there was
the post game fireworks show
at MacArthur Stadium when I
was broadcasting for the
Syracuse Chiefs. A spark
started a brush fire beyond the left field wall. But the best fireworks show I
ever heard of was on July 5th,
1985. It was supposed to be a
July 4th show. The Atlanta
Braves were hosting the New
York Mets that night. The game went 19 innings and ended at
3:55 in the morning. At 4:01 the
show began. I’m sure the
twelve people in the stands
LOVED it. This weekend I'll be broadcasting
for the Mariners on 710 ESPN
Seattle. We'll be in Anaheim for
a four game series with the
Angels. And Friday night is
fireworks night. Happy July 4th weekend. Drive
safe out there.

Royal Couples HoneyMoon
Prince William and Kate are
enjoying a big day of activities
in Canada's smallest province,
taking part in a mix of history,
culture, and adventure under
overcast skies in Prince Edward Island. For William, the day's most
thrilling moment likely came
when he was given a chance to
put his military helicopter
training to the test by
attempting a helicopter water landing before a crowd of
spectators -- and his wife. William, a trained helicopter pilot
with the RAF, stepped into the
co-pilot's chair of a CH124 Sea
King helicopter for a
demonstration of "waterbirding,"
a made-in-Canada training manoeuvre. The technique is
designed to simulate an
emergency landing over water
following an engine failure. William helped pilot the dual-
engine Sea King to about 40
feet above the surface of the
water, then landed on the
water in a slightly nose-up
position, and taxied for a number of minutes along the
surface of the water. He then
helped fire up the chopper's
engines, take to the skies, and
do it all over again. It was an exciting, hands-on
moment for the prince that
followed a more traditional
royal-visit kind of morning that
included a visit to Province
House, the birthplace of Confederation. As she's done a number of
times on this official visit, Kate
chose to wear a U.K. label for
the events. She went with a
long-sleeved cream, cable knit
dress with navy blue trim designed by Sarah Burton at
Alexander McQueen. It was
Burton, of course, who famously
designed Kate's showstopping
wedding dress. The Prince wore
a navy suit and rose-coloured tie. After taking a tour of the site
known for hosting the
Charlottetown Conference some
146 years ago, they posed for
photos with actors dressed as
the Fathers of Confederation. P.E.I. Premier Robert Ghiz took
to a podium to offer an official
welcom them -- finishing off by
throwing in some marital advice
for Prince William. Ghiz, whose
wife's name is also Kate, reminded the prince to
remember that "the Kates are
always right." Duchess Kate
laughed, while William offered a
shy smile. William then stepped forward to
thank the province's leadership
for "their generous welcome." "It is quite the moment for
Catherine and me to be
standing here in Atlantic
Canada, in front of Province
House, where Canadian
Confederation was forged," he said. "...We have both so looked
forward to this day and
discovering more about your
beautiful island." Before leaving the site, the
couple took part in a walk-
about in the mist, greeting
some of the thousands of
Islanders and tourists who had
gathered outside to cheer and wave Canadian flags. Canada AM's Jeff Hutcheson
reports there appeared to be
only one protester in the
crowd: a man carrying a small
sign that read: "You are not my
prince." But Hutcheson says a woman stepped in front of him
and opened a large, black
umbrella. After the walk-about, the
couple retraced the steps of
the Fathers of Confederation by
proceeding down Great George
St. in an open-air landau with
an RCMP mounted escort, to the city's waterfront. At Confederation Landing, they
watched a musical theatre
performance of "The Talking
Stick," which tells First Nations'
stories from across the country. Following the morning's
activities, the couple will rest
and change outfits before
heading off to Dalvay by-the-
Sea by motorcade. There, they
will engage in a little friendly competition, boarding separate
boats for some head-to-head
dragon boat racing. P.E.I.'s cuisine will also be
showcased during the Island
visit, as the duke and duchess
will be invited to sample some
of the province's most famous
exports, including new potato chowder, oysters and steamed
mussels. Notably absent from the
itinerary is a visit to Green
Gables House, the tourist
destination that inspired the
setting for L.M. Montgomery's
beloved tale, "Anne of Green Gables." For weeks, rumours had swirled
that a visit to the site seemed
likely to play a part in the
royal visit, since it's been said
that Kate loves the classic tale
of the red-haired orphan. But the tour's co-ordinator, Kevin
MacLeod, says there's been no
official confirmation of that. However, two actors from
"Anne of Green Gables -- The
Musical" are slated to make an
appearance at some point
during the tour. MacLeod, who also serves as
the Canadian secretary to the
Queen, says the tour's events
were specially selected so that
the newlyweds can get to know
Canada by being a part of it instead of acting merely as
observers. "They are not here just
visiting," he told The Canadian
Press. "They're here to
participate, to be amongst us
and to do what we do." Later tonight, the royal couple
flies to Yellowknife for more
hands-on activities, including
taking part in a game of street
hockey with youth. On
Thursday, they go to Calgary, the final stop on their nine-day
tour, where they will officially
launch the Calgary Stampede
parade. With reports from The Canadian
Press
Princess
USA Today is reporting that Princess Cruises has canceled
port calls in Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico, due to passenger
safety concerns. According to
USA Today, port calls in
Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas will be extended to compensate
for the canceled Puerto Vallarta
port visit. This itinerary change
will affect three 2011 cruises;
Princess Cruises has not
announced any changes to 2012 itineraries.

WP di hack
CALIFORNIA - WordPress.org mendesak para penggunanya
untuk mereset password
mereka, setelah beberapa
plug-in populer di situs
penyedia blog tersebut
terkena serangan hacker. "Tim WordPress mengumumkan
bahwa beberapa serangan
hack terjadi pada beberapa
plug-in, yang termasuk
malware backdoor," tulis Matt
Mullenweg, pendiri Automattic dalam postingan blognya.
Demikian seperti yang dikutip
dari Mashable, Rabu
(22/6/2011). "Ketika kami menemukan
serangan tersebut, kami
langsung menutup akses ke
plugin yang bersangkutan,"
tambahnya. Selain itu, Mullenweg
mengatakan bahwa AddThis,
WPtouch dan W3 Total Cache
merupakan sejumlah plug-in
yang mendapat serangan
tersebut. Sebagai tindakan preventif,
WordPress.org mendesak
penggunanya untuk mereset
semua password mereka.
Serangan ini dikatakan tidak
berdampak pada blog-blog di WordPress, namun
berpengaruh pada forum, trac
dan kode di WordPress ke
plug-in atau theme. Ini bukan kali pertama
WordPress diserang oleh para
hacker, sebelumnya
WordPress.com (yang terpisah
dari WordPress.org) juga
pernah menjadi korban hacking pada bulan April.
